I'd like to start this blog by talking about imposter syndrome. Imposter Syndrome can be summarized as doubting yourself and your abilities, causing you to feel like you're not good enough. The nature of art making breeds an environment (at least for myself) where I'm battling between feelings of immense pride and imposter syndrome. As a rule there's no in between.

Art making is funny. There's a lot of failure involved in becoming good. Good art is very subjective in nature. The artist and the viewers judge and as an artist this is something I can take personally.

I get a lot of validation when I complete a work. If I've finished something it's a work I'm very happy with. Over time I grow and my tastes and skill sets change. What I once thought was good doesn't always stand the test of time.

Beyond the actual art making process I get imposter syndrome from my online presence. I seek validation through numbers, link clicks and followers. Validation in the age of the internet is metric based. Comparison is the thief of joy.

At the end of the day my advice to myself and to other artists is to keep your head down and just keep making. You're probably doing better than you think, regardless of the numbers say.
